How is MIL SPEC 130 Different from MIL-STD-129
MIL-STD-130 and MIL-STD-129 are detailed specifications that apply to mandatory marking and labeling.

MIL-STD-130 defines marking standards for the Department of Defense. IUID markings need to conform to the MIL-STD-130 requirements. This specification refers to labeling and marking technologies that typically include thermal transfer printers, and laser marking systems, as well as dot peen stylus markers and other proven technologies.

MIL-STD-129, on the other hand, defines Department of Defense requirements for the shipping of military products. According to this standard all articles should bear legible identification markings prior to their distribution.

Both standards are critical to today’s U.S. DoD logistic requirements. Each specification provides detailed guidance for labeling of individual parts, products, or shipments, which in turn, helps to keep better track of the items owned by the US military.
